Everything floats down here

I’m posting this for one reason, and one reason only. To be mean.

This is embedded from imgur, so it may not be here forever. May your dreams be ruined for as long as it lasts.

There’s also this: Continue reading

I Couldn’t GIF the Colbchella Dance Party. Luckily, Someone Else Figured It Out.

You’ve probably seen the StePhest Colbchella ‘013 “Time to Dance” video by now. Unless you’ve been living under a rock or were really busy like me today. If you missed it, here it is (at least for as long as Comedy Central makes it available for embedding):

The Colbert Report
Get More: Colbert Report Full Episodes,Video Archive

Because I am always several years behind the times when it comes to the internet, upon seeing the video, I figured I ought to make GIFs of the video, like I recently did for a Dos Equis commercial I found amusing. Alas, Comedy Central has done a good job blocking downloads of their streaming videos. I know some tricks, but not enough tricks.

Vulture, however, obviously knows more than me, or they have access to an actual video file. They have some GIFs up on their site. I hope they don’t mind if I post a few highlights here.

This Week in WTF, August 2, 2013

– A guy’s friends were helping him move, and decided to poke around under the porch. That’s where they found 37 clowns, and the fuel for a lifetime of nightmares.

– With all due respect to the California University of Management, they might want to have a serious talk with their marketing team.

Just sayin’.

– A nursing home in the Bronx is encouraging its residents to have sex, at least according to a rather sensationalistic headline. This is a “WTF” story more for the response it is likely to generate than for anything inherently odd. The CEO of the facility said it quite well:

Very few nursing homes around the country acknowledged the sexual behavior or intimacy of their residents. We realized that there needed to be a grown-up conversation and a grown-up policies and procedures to govern this behavior…Our position is very strongly that consenting adults who have capacity, this is a civil right of theirs. They do not give up a civil right simply because they are in need of nursing care in a facility. And that our obligation as a nursing facility is to encourage their civil rights, as we would do with respect to voting.

The trick will be figuring this out for dementia patients.

– This GIF is very WTF-worthy, and doesn’t really make me want Pringles:

Reason No. 94,560 Why My Dog is Awesome

She wants to share the toy with May, but I guess she just lacks the muscle memory to let go of it once she’s got it.

Monday Morning Cute: Monkey 1, Dog 0

Dogs and monkeys don’t seem to get along very well.

I’m going to assume this is a good-natured dispute, to the extent that we can understand how monkeys and dogs negotiate with one another.

“Tell them there that Missouri’s daughters and her sons are yours no more”

An old, yet still compelling, story came my way today (h/t Matt), of a young man who sought to express his Scottish heritage, but was shunned by school officials who don’t think men should wear dresses. This all played out in Missouri.

A Granite City High School senior doing research on his family’s Scottish heritage purchased a kilt made out of the family’s tartan and decided the garment’s coming out party would be at the senior prom.

School officials, however, said no.

William Carruba was denied again Tuesday by the Granite City School Board, where he had turned in hopes of having the school’s denial reversed. Officials there said kilts are “nontraditional” and that they do not fit into the district’s dress code.

“I understand full-heartedly,” Carruba, 19, said of the board’s decision after the meeting. “I’ll just … wear pants.”

Superintendent Harry A. Briggs told the 65 people in attendance that the denial was not simply about the kilt.

“We must adhere to our (dress) policy,” Briggs said. “To do otherwise would be reckless on our part.”

While he said he respects the tradition of the kilt, Briggs, who said he is of Scottish-Irish heritage, said normal attire must be worn to school functions.

“It’s not what we call normal wear,” he said of the kilt, adding that “attending the prom is a privilege, not a right.”

Okay, fair enough, what with school policies and all. Maybe the problem is with the policy itself (unless the goal is to keep kids from expressing themselves, which it might be.)

I’m tempted to break out some Braveheart quotes, a la “Go back to England and tell them there that Scotland’s daughters and her sons are yours no more. Tell them Scotland is free.”

What this really needs, though, is some Scottish-highland-dancing McGuirk:
