Crowdsurfing Is Not Consent

People should not need to be reminded of this, but the mere fact that a person is crowdsurfing at a concert does not mean that you get to grope them.

I also happen to think that crowdsurfing is dumb, and a great way to hurt yourself and others—plus, I didn’t realize it had endured as a thing past the ’90s. (People don’t mosh anymore, do they?) The no-groping rule stands, regardless.

So anyway, it was refreshing to see that Staind frontman Aaron Lewis (speaking of the ’90s…) stopped a concert mid-song when he saw a young female crowdsurfer getting groped.

The lead vocalist of Staind stopped a show this weekend to yell at a group of audience members he saw molesting a teenaged girl.

The young fan was crowdsurfing at the Kansas City Rockfest on Saturday when audience members reportedly began groping and molesting her—apparently an all-too-common fate for female crowdsurfers.

“Alright, listen up you fucking assholes. That fucking girl right there is like fifteen fucking years old and you fucking pieces of shit are molesting her while she’s on the fucking crowd,” Lewis told the crowd. “Your fucking mothers should be ashamed of themselves, you pieces of shit. If I fucking see that shit again, I swear to God I will point you out in the crowd and have everyone around you beat your fucking ass.”

All things considered, if people are going to grope a fellow concertgoer without her consent, there is a certain poetic justice should other concertgoers pummel them without their consent. (Seriously, though, violence is never the answer, kids. Stay in school.)

Here’s the only Staind song I really remember:
